The long awaited "Handing Over Ceremony" where the Northam Airfield would be officially handed over to the the local authorities finally took place during the 2011 Northam Aero Club Open Day on April 10, 2011. After a warm welcome by Vice President Captain Errol Croft, Grenville Putland Esq. recalled the history of the airfield since its creation some 40 years ago, through the many changes and improvements done by the Aero Club all the way to the final handing over of the Airfield to the local community. Cr Steve Pollard, President of the Northam Shire, responded, thanking the Aero Club for all the work done through the years. He then presented the Club with an engraved crystal plaque. Presented by the Shire of Northam in recognition of the valuable contribution of the Northam Areo Club to the development of the Northam Airport including land, infrastructure, management and operation from July 1971 to July 2009.
