The Northam Aero Club Flight Training operates within the Royal Aero Club Flying School.
The first step to a career in Aviation or to obtain the Recreational Pilot Licence (RPL) or the Private Pilot Licence (PPL) is normally a Trial Instructional Flight (TIF). This flight, is a hands on experience flying from the Captain's seat, with an Instructor at your side to guide you through this unforgettable experience. This flight usually lasts approximately 30 minutes and is loggable time towards your licence. Cost is $205.00.
There is no minimum education requirement for the issue of any Australian Pilot's licence. However before a person can fly solo they must be at least 16 years old and have passed a Medical Examination given by a Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME).
Northam Aero Club requires all Student Pilots to become members of our club.
Cost of joining the Northam Aero Club is $10.00 Nomination Fee, Plus $55.00 Annual Subscription. Total to join $65.00.
The first level of training takes you through to the Recreation Pilot Licence(RPL).
A minimum of 25 hours is required prior to gaining thr RPL,including 5 hours solo. However a more realistic figure is between 25
and 30 hours depending on how often you fly. It normally takes between 10 and 15 hours to achieve your first
Solo Flight. Again this depends on how often you fly.
Having successfully completed your RPL, you are now able to carry passengers in the local training area.
The training is undertaken in the Club's Cessna C172, the cost is $410.00 per hour for dual training. This includes pre-flight briefing and a debriefing at the conclusion of each flight.
Once you have your RPL you can commence Navigation training.
There is a minimum 5 hours solo time flying and 20 hours total flying time to gain your navigation endorsement, which will allow you to fly anywhere in Australia.
The navigation training is broken into 7-8 exercises of between 2.5 hours and 4 hours each. two of these exercices will be solo.
Prior to commencement of your flight training speak to one of our Instructors who will be able to help you decide on the right path to take towards your Aviation dream.
